The Story Behind the Legacy

In the late 50's and early 60's, White citizens in TN created a blacklist of African-Americans who participated in sit-ins, voter registration drives, and similar events. Those on the list were not allowed to get much needed bank loans, forcing many, including the Mason Family, to take up residence in the "Freedom Village" tent city.
